my project for the futur is to train hard to go to olympic game in london 2012.

if I can't go there I will go back to school to get the grade to go at the EPFL and be a trainer for my club

pre and world championship

The team and Myself

Hi I'm Lauri Kalkkinen and I'm 17 years old.
I'm studing at Nicolas Bouvier college in the athlete class.
I'm a sailor and I have sailed since I was 9.
I started sailing in optimist I have raced the European championships and after I changed to laser 4.7 one and a half year ago.

I did one world (witch one I did ~160) and one European 6 month ago (I did 43 over 200 male).

Now I'm going to sail the South African and the world championships in Hermanus in South Africa .I represent Switzerland for this and will do my best.
My trainer's name is Ezequiel, he's from Argentina but he lives in Italy

The other members of my team are: Jonathan, he’s 17 , Bastien, he’s 16 and Guillaume, he's 16


The Great Travel

After 12 hours flight we are in South Africa.
It's hot approximately 30c0 and sunny, there isn't cloud in the sky.
At the airport it's a big mess and we lose all our bag at Johannesburg airport.
They tell us that our bags are coming with the next flight and we get some more, but there is still one bag missing and our big sail-tiller and tiller extension so we have to come back tomorrow and see if they have arrived.

After the South African championship

After a lot of driving and sailing days the South African championship is over.

There was all the wind condition since 0 knot to 30 kns.

I fought against other sailor from all the country Poland, Israel, South Africa; Peru, Qatar, New-Zealand, Australia, Brazil and many other.

And finally I finished 8 over 60 boot and my friend Jonathan finished 3.

One other good news, we found our new sail witch were lost during our travel to South Africa.

Now we're going to sail and have fun until the world championship.

The world championship

The World championship is going to start and one of the person of my team is now here, her name is Erika .she's 16 and it's her first world championship in laser 4.7.

We did the registration and the Jury had already check all the boot and everybody passed it. Today we were supposed to do the practice race but there was NO WIND.

So we came back to the club for the opening ceremony and the mixing of the water(Each country brings some water from his land).

1st and 2nd days of races

Yesterday we've got our 1st day of race and everybody is in the starting block.

We went on the water but there weren't a lot of wind so we did only 1 race and we came back to the club until it was more windy we wait until 4 o'clock and we're going out again to did the 2nd in a very light wind.This day I did 9 and 45.

Today we're going out on the water at ten in the morning.

There was not a lot of wind but we can start our race, I finish 37 because I started in a very bad place and I'll didn't accelerate.

After this the wind start to increase and I was so upset that I will kill them all until I wasn't at a good place and I did 8.

Now I'm 45 over 115 and I will say that Jonathan won a race today and than he's 3 over all


3rd and 4th day of races

Yesterday I did 27 and 24 and today there was no wind and

we did we did only 1 race but I did 23.
The last day of the qualification day

there was no wind and we stay on the water until the last time

and I'm 46 in the Gold Fleet with Jonathan

who's 9 in the gold fleet and the rest of the Swiss team is in the silver fleet

1st day of the final race

The level is very high on the Gold fleet everybody is fighting for every meter

and I did 26 and 17.
Now Jonathan is 9 and I'm 36 over all.

2nd day of the final race

Today when I woke up I saw that there was a lot of wind and that's good for me.
It was too windy and they didn't want that we went on the water so we wait until the wind goes a little bit down and I did 11 and 12

Return Home

Now the world championship is over and I'm writing this in the plane at 4.35 am.
My friend and I have done a one of the best trip that we have ever done together.
The two last day of the world championship were very windy so I did quite well and I came back from 46 to 26 in the gold fleet that mean that I'm in all the world and 2nd best Swiss sailor.
My friends were Jonathan 23th gold fleet, Guillaume 2nd silver fleet, Erika 10th silver fleet, Bastien 21th silver fleet
